This section of the website is dedicated to helping people fight SPAM.
Do You Hate SPAM and Junkmail, Scams and trash in your Email ?
Do You Hate Spiders ?
First,
If you are receiving SPAM at your current email address, its not going to stop anytime soon and it will most likely get worse. So even when you become a Member of ConvertToJPG.com, unless you start fresh with a new email account, it may not make a significant difference. Consider creating a new or temporary email account with a company like Yahoo! that gives you plenty of free space to work with.
We consider people who send SPAM to be the cockroaches of the internet and think the world needs a good exterminator. These cockroaches use your email address and personal information as food. And just like the filthy insects, they hide most of the time, come out when your not looking and invade your personal space. One of the ONLY ways to get rid of cockroaches is to make it harder for them to find food.
Spammers use tools (called Spiders) that go (crawling) from web page to web page following links. These spiders look for email addresses, names and other information that is typically stored as plain text in your webpage. When they find an email address they read (harvest) it from the webpage and store it in their database only to be used as food later.
Using the tools on this website you can convert your email address and other sensitive plain text Information such as Names, Phone Numbers, Birthdates and Account Numbers into a JPG Graphics Image. Text as Graphics makes it harder for the Spammers to run tools that can harvest your information from your webpages. While humans can easily read text stored in a graphic image, only really sophisticated programs can accomplish the same thing.
These are just some of the Cool Tools and we are working on new ones every day.
Other Tips, Tricks and Resources
Below are several tips, tricks and even some products and resources to help you in the fight against SPAM.
Products :
Using Email filters are great, but even they sometimes are the source of headaches. If they are not setup properly
or without enough details and instructions in the filters, they can miss filtering some email or even Filter out
email that you DID want to receive.
Also, A filter removes unwanted email AFTER it has arrived in your inbox. By this time, the spammer already knows
your account is valid. Its too late, the damage is done.
One product WE use is designed to assist you and is better than JUST filters. The Product is : MailWasher Pro And it is created by Firetrust.
What's the difference between MailWasher Pro and a filter ? MailWasher Pro can make it appear to spammers that your email account does not even exist. Our staff has personally been using MailWasher Pro for over 3 years, and its accuracy is simply remarkable. If you are a System Admin:
Firetrust has a Server side product available, and it is OPEN SOURCE.
Tips :
One VERY important guidelines about dealing with Junk Mail is, MANY "Remove" lists are actually a scam to GET your
email address. So unless you know the company, we would suggest that you do not sign any "remove" lists. They
typically result in you getting more junk mail.
Tricks :
A very powerful yet simple tool for combating SPAM is simply to set up multiple email accounts. It may take a
little effort at first, but we know it works. (If you have your own website and manage your own email accounts, this may be really powerful for you.)
Here is how it works.
| 1) |
Create a new Primary, SECRET email address.
Do NOT give the address out to anyone.
Do NOT List the address on any web pages.
Do NOT Send email directly from the account (yet)
|
|
| 2) |
ONLY give out your Primary email address to people and organizations you TRUST. This includes those friends that send you all those jokes and forwards, and they CC you and 50 other people all at the same time. Now 50 others have your email address as well. Can you trust all 50 of them ? Most likely some of them will forward your email address off to another 50 people. Once something gets posted on the internet, it NEVER goes away. Set strict guidelines with friends on the use of your Primary email address. If you want to receive jokes and forwards like this, then set up a separate account where you don’t mind getting them at.
|
|
| 3) |
Any time you are signing up for some service, creating a new online account, buying something online, Etc... before you do, Create a NEW Temporary email account Specifically for that new contact.
|
|
| 4) |
Be Specific with the Email Address Name. For instance, if your name is Sam and you are signing up to buy books on eBay from "Sally's Books", create an email address on Yahoo! called "Sam4SallysBooksOnEbay@Yahoo.com."
Yahoo! Can have up to 32 Characters before the @ Sign. (BTW, this is JUST an example. We don't know if "Sally's books" actually exists or not. So, If you are from Sally's Books, calm down, let us know and we will gladly change the reference.)
|
|
| 5) |
For a time, only use that Temporary email address to communicate with "Sally's books." If you get any junk mail that comes to the temporary address, then you have to question how the spammer got it so fast if Sally's Books is the only one that has it.
|
|
| 6) |
Once you can confirm "Sally's Books" is using your information with care, "upgrade" them to your Primary email account.
|
Email accounts are easy to create and destroy them as you need. When one Temporary starts filling up with junk mail, you simply delete it or stop using it. Your Primary account can stay safe for a long time. I, The webmaster of this site, create a NEW email account for every new contact I establish. If I get any junk mail on that account, I know where it came from as only 1 person was given each NEW account. I Instantly know who to trust - or who NOT to trust.
